Make a will for your India assets

A clear will saves your family from long court processes for your property, bank accounts and investments in India.

Keep these ready

Steps

  1. List your India assets: property, bank accounts, fixed deposits, mutual funds, shares and insurance.
  2. Write the will, saying clearly who gets what, and name an executor.
  3. Sign it in front of two witnesses, who also sign. The witnesses should not be people who inherit.
  4. Registering the will at the sub-registrar office is optional, but it makes it harder to challenge.
  5. If you also have a will abroad, make sure the two do not contradict each other. Tell your executor where the original is kept.
