Steps

Check with your operator how long the number stays active without a recharge.
Activate international roaming, or a low-cost plan that keeps the number active.
Recharge online before the validity ends. Set a reminder.
If you change the number, update it first with your bank, Aadhaar, PAN and DigiLocker.
