Check baggage and gold rules before you fly
New Baggage Rules from 2 February 2026 raised the duty-free allowance to ₹75,000 and set the duty-free gold jewellery limit at 40 grams for women and 20 grams for men who have lived abroad for more than a year.
Keep these ready
- Bills for costly items and jewellery
- Passport showing your stay abroad
Steps
- Read the current baggage rules on the CBIC website before you pack.
- Check whether you qualify for the jewellery allowance: you must have lived abroad for more than one year.
- Keep bills for costly new items and for jewellery you carry.
- Use the red channel and declare anything above the free allowance. Not declaring can mean a penalty and confiscation.
